golden handcuffs

Incentive, usually in the form of a financial bonus, used to tie an employee to a company. The aim is to prevent the employee from being poached by another company. Golden handcuffs are therefore usually structured to attract the employee for a period of time, often several years. Stock options are a popular form of golden handcuffs.
