Goldmark, Peter (Carl) (1906–1977)

Hungarian-born US electrical engineer and inventor. By 1940 he had developed the first practical colour television transmission system. He later built a camera that, carried aboard a lunar orbiting vehicle, transmitted very high definition pictures of the moon's surface back to earth. Born in Budapest, Hungary, he studied at the universities of Vienna and Berlin, before emigrating to the USA in 1933, where he worked in the laboratories of CBS.
