Goltz, Christel (1912– )

German soprano. She studied in Munich and sang Agathe there in 1935. She performed in Dresden 1936–50, and in Berlin, Vienna, and Munich from 1947 in Strauss roles, and as Tosca and Leonore. She appeared at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, from 1951, and in 1952 sang Marie there in the first British stage production of Berg's Wozzeck. Her New York Metropolitan Opera House debut was in December 1954, as Salome, and her other roles included Isolde, the Dyer's Wife, and Orff's Antigonae.
