The investigators observe that while the causes of ovarian cancer have never been determined, a number of hypotheses have been advanced--incessant ovulation, high levels of circulating gonadotropins, ovarian exposure to contaminants via the fallopian tubes and low progesterone levels. Injecting captive bream with GnRH jump-started a cascade of events, including a release of the pituitary's gonadotropins into the blood.
