Guntram

Opera by Richard Strauss (libretto by composer), first produced in Weimar, Germany, on 10 May 1894. It was Strauss's first opera. A revised version was produced uin Weimar on 22 October 1940. In the story, Guntram kills Duke Robert after being attacked by him, but the idealistic minstrel realizes that his deed was caused by love for the Duke's wife, Freihild. Guntram seeks solitude for introspection.
