Goodhue County

County in southeast Minnesota; area 1,976 sq km/763 sq mi; population (1990) 40,700. It is bordered by the Mississippi River and the Wisconsin state line. Red Wing is the administrative headquarters of this agricultural county, where dairy farms and corn and wheat fields predominate. The Richard J Dorer Memorial Hardwood State Forest occupies most of the north region of the county. Prairie Island Indian Reservation is on an island in the Mississippi River, in the northwest, as is the Prairie Island nuclear power plant (1973).
