Goodrich

Village in Herefordshire, England, on the River Wye, 6 km/4 mi southwest of Ross-on-Wye. The ruined castle here dates from the mid-12th century.

The castle keep was erected to guard the ford on the river, but it was not completed for around another 150 years. Goodrich Castle, which is guarded by a deep rock-cut moat, became the seat of the lords of the southern Welsh Marches. As a Royalist stronghold, it was destroyed by Parliamentary forces during the English Civil War.
