Gorchakova, Galina (1962- )

Russian soprano. She studied at Novosibirsk and sang with the Sverdlovsk Opera from 1988, as Tatiana, Butterfly, Tamara in The Demon, Katerina in Shostakovich's A Lady Macbeth of Mtensk, and Yaroslavna. She has sung in St Petersburg as Lisa (from Queen of Spades) and as the Trovatore Leonora, and gave dramatically convincing performances there and at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, and the New York Metropolitan Opera House as Renata in Prokofiev's The Fiery Angel in 1992. She sang with the Kirov Opera as Fevronia in The Invisible City of Kitezh in St Petersburg and London in 1994, and Butterfly at the Metropolitan Opera House in 1995.
