Gori

Town in Georgia, 76 km/47 mi northwest of Tbilisi; population (1996) 60,000. The town, which has been known since the 7th century, is the birthplace of Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin.

At a ceremony in the Georgian city of Gori attended by Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili and Turkish State Minister Faruk Celik, 100 houses were handed over to their owners.
