Gossard, Arthur C(harles) (1935- )

US physicist, who a major contribution to solid state physics, ferromagnetism, and the study of quantum structures and crystal lattices. He was a member of American Telephone & Telegraph Co. Bell Laboratories (1960-87) before joining the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1987. Gossard was born in Ottawa, Illinois.
