Gossett, Philip (1941- )

US musicologist. He studied at Princeton (PhD 1970) and taught at the University of Chicago from 1968 (professor and chair of the music department 1978-84). He was general editor of the critical edition of Verdi's works, joint editor of the Rossini edition from 1979, co-editor with Charles Rosen of Early Romantic Operas (New York, 1978-83, in 44 volumes), and editor of a facsimile edition of Il barbiere di Siviglia (Rome, 1993).
