Gouda

Town in South Holland province, west Netherlands, 17 km/11 mi northeast of Rotterdam; population (2006 est) 71,400. It stands at the confluence of the rivers Gouwe and IJssel. It produces round, flat Gouda cheeses and other dairy products; stoneware and candles are also produced. Among its landmarks is the Groote Kerk, with stained-glass windows.
