Gougane Barra

Lake on the upper River Lee, County Cork, Republic of Ireland. The lake is surrounded by mountains. A causeway leads to a tiny island, which was the site of the hermitage of St Finnbarr, patron saint of the city of Cork. Nothing remains of the original buildings but there is a pilgrimage to the 18th-century oratory every September. There is a forest park next to the lake.
