Gould, James L (1945- )

US animal behaviourist. An authority in animal communication, learning, and orientation behaviour, he extended his research to include learning behaviour in human infants and the development of human language. In 1974 he demonstrated that bees use a ‘waggling dance’ to show other bees the location of food. Gould was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He joined the Princeton faculty in 1975 and became a full professor of biology there in 1983.
