Gouvion St Cyr, Laurent (1764–1830)

French marshal. Born at Toul, France, he took part in the Prussian and Polish campaigns of 1807 and 1808, and in August 1812 defeated the Russians at Polotsk, for which he was created a marshal of France. St Cyr accompanied Napoleon all through the Russian campaign, and in July 1815 was appointed war minister. He died at Hyeres, France.
