Gozzi, Count Carlo (1720–1806)

Italian dramatist. He wrote L'amore delle tre melarance/The Love for Three Oranges 1761 and other ‘fantastic plays’, which combined serious criticism of contemporary social and intellectual attitudes with absurdist humour.

Other works include Il re cervo/The King Stag, Turandot, and L'augellino belverde (all written 1761–65).
