Gracis, Ettore (1915-1992)

Italian conductor. He studied at Venice and conducted at Bergamo 1951-56, leading premieres of operas by Chailly and Testi. He performed at the Naples Festival from 1961, with revivals of operas by Piccinni, Rossini, and Cimarosa, and Mozart's La finta semplice/The Pretended Simpleton and Die Zauberflöte/The Magic Flute. He conducted at the Maggio Musicale in Florence 1948-50, and at the Teatro de la Fenice in Venice 1959-71; he led first performances of works by Malipiero, Sinopoli, and Turchi at the Biennale.
