Grady, Henry Woodfin (1850–1889)

US journalist and orator. As editor and coowner of the Atlanta Constitution (1880–89), he helped raise morale in the postbellum South through positive proposals for redevelopment. His philosophy was embodied in his classic speech on ‘The New South’, which he first presented in 1886. He was born in Athens, Georgia.
