Graf, Hans (1949– )

Austrian conductor. He studied at Graz and made his debut at the Vienna Staatsoper in 1977, returning with Stravinsky's Petrushka in 1981. He performed at the Munich and Vienna Festivals from 1981, and at the Paris Opéra in 1984, with Mozart's Die Entführung/The Kidnapping. He was director of the Mozarteum Orchestra at Salzburg 1984–92, and has led Wagner's Ring cycle there. He has appeared as a guest conductor with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and the Dresden, St Petersburg, Vienna, and Liverpool Philharmonics. He conducted Die Zauberflöte/The Magic Flute on tour with the Vienna Staatsoper to Japan in 1989 and at the Savonlinna Festival in 1992.
