Graham, Katharine

Graham, Katharine (1917–2001)

US publisher. Following the 1963 suicide of her husband Philip Graham, she became president of a communications empire that included the Washington Post and Newsweek magazine, among several other interests. As the Washington Post publisher (1969–79) she helped broaden the paper's circulation and reputation.

Born Katharine Meyer in New York City, her father was the US publisher Eugene Meyer. She published her memoirs, Personal History, in 1997.
