Grand Forks

City and administrative headquarters of Grand Forks County, east North Dakota, USA, situated on the Minnesota border, 124 km/77 mi north of Fargo, on the Red River; population (2000) 49,300. It is a centre for the surrounding agricultural area; most of its industries, such as food-processing mills and fertilizer plants, are associated with agriculture. It is the home of the University of North Dakota (1883), and the Grand Forks Air Force Base is nearby.

Grand Forks was founded as a fur-trading post in 1801, and was permanently settled in 1871; it was incorporated as a city in 1881.

Passerine birds in and around Grand Forks were surveyed for antibodies to WNV for 3 transmission seasons: June 24-October 27, 2003, April 4-July 7, 2004, and May 17-August 11, 2005.
All of them were donated to the library by the Greater Grand Forks Breastfeeding Coalition, whose members believe that breastfeeding should be promoted as the norm and that children need to see images of breastfeeding.
