Grand Forks

City and administrative headquarters of Grand Forks County, east North Dakota, USA, situated on the Minnesota border, 124 km/77 mi north of Fargo, on the Red River; population (2000) 49,300. It is a centre for the surrounding agricultural area; most of its industries, such as food-processing mills and fertilizer plants, are associated with agriculture. It is the home of the University of North Dakota (1883), and the Grand Forks Air Force Base is nearby.

Grand Forks was founded as a fur-trading post in 1801, and was permanently settled in 1871; it was incorporated as a city in 1881.

UND President Robert Kelley and Lake Region State President Mike Bower say the plan will allow full-time Lake Region students to live on the UND campus in Grand Forks and take a limited number of classes.
Activities planned prior to the event on April 18 include a tour of Grand Forks with a stop at Widman's Candy Shop, "Home of the Chippers" (chocolate covered potato chips) as well as numerous other selections, lunch in downtown East Grand Forks on the Boardwalk where you can choose from four restaurants all located within one block followed with a stop at the mall for those interested in doing a little shopping.
SCOTLAND went down 6-3 to Canada in the final of the World Men's Curling Championships in Grand Forks, North Dakota, yesterday.
