Grand Macabre, Le

Opera by György Ligeti (libretto by composer and M Meschke, after M de Ghelderode), first produced in Stockholm, Sweden, on12 April 1978. It was performed at the London Coliseum on 2 December 1982, with the original roles of Spermando and Clitoria ‘translated’ by G Skelton as Amando and Miranda. In the story, Nekrotzar returns from the grave in an attempt to destroy the world, but is disappointed when a threatening comet passes by harmlessly.
