Grand Prairie

Industrial city in Dallas, Tarrant, and Ellis counties, northeast Texas; population (1990) 99,600. It is situated between the cities of Dallas and Fort Worth, on the west fork of the Trinity River. It has a bottling plant, and heavy industries that produce steel, tanks, air and spacecraft, pipe, mobile homes, plastics, and electronic equipment. The Dallas Naval Air Station is in the city.

The city was established at the end of the Civil War as a stop on the Texas & Pacific Railroad. The development of World War II defence plants transformed Grand Prairie from a small agricultural community into an industrial suburb.
