Granger, James (1723–1776)| English biographer. He published a Biographical History of England 1769, which had blank pages for the insertion of engraved portraits, of which he himself collected 14,000. It started a fashion for ‘grangerizing’, a term applied to interleaving a book with illustrations cut from others. |
| He was born in Shaston, Dorset. Educated at Oxford, he took orders and became vicar of Shiplake in Oxfordshire. |
