Grant, Cary (1904–1986)

English-born actor, a US citizen from 1942. His witty, debonair personality and good looks made him a screen favourite for more than three decades. Among his many films are She Done Him Wrong (1933), Bringing Up Baby (1938), The Philadelphia Story (1940), Notorious (1946), To Catch a Thief (1955), North by Northwest (1959), and Charade (1963).

Grant was a frequent collaborator with the directors Alfred Hitchcock, Howard Hawks, and George Cukor. Further films include The Awful Truth (1937), Topper (1937), His Girl Friday (1940), Arsenic and Old Lace (1944), Monkey Business (1952), and An Affair to Remember (1957). He received an honorary Academy Award in 1969.
