Grant, Clifford (1930- )

Australian bass. He made his stage debut in Sydney in 1952, as Donizetti's Raimondo. He studied with Otakar Kraus in London and was heard with the Sadler's Wells Theatre/English National Opera Ensemble from 1966 as Silva, Seneca, Sarastro, and Hagen. His US debut was at San Francisco in 1967. He sang Monteverdi's Neptune at Glyndebourne in 1972, and Mozart's Bartolo at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, in 1974. His other roles include Pogner, Trulove, and Philip II. He appeared with the Australian Opera 1976-90, and sang Alvise in La Gioconda for Opera North in 1993.
