Grant tank

US medium tank M3 (known as the ‘General Lee’), modified for British service in World War II.

It was redesigned so that the radio could be carried in the turret where it could be operated by the vehicle commander or the gunner, removing the need for a radio operator and so reducing the crew to six.

It was first used at Gazala May 1942 and continued in service with the 8th Army to the end of the North African campaign, though toward the end it was being replaced by the M4 Sherman. It was armed with a 37 mm turret gun and a 75 mm side-mounted gun and had a definite superiority over contemporary British tanks in both armament and reliability.
