Great Gable

Great Gable

Mountain in Cumbria, England; height 1,000 m/3,281 ft. It has several difficult rock climbs. The most popular route to the top is from Sty Head at the head of Borrowdale Valley.

Since 1923 Great Gable has been the site of a war memorial dedicated to mountaineers of the Fell and Rock Climbing Club.

Two days later, after the floods in the valleys had subsided, I returned to Great Gable, but could not find the cache.
Wasdale Head is surrounded by precipitous peaks but also offers paths to some of the Lake District's highest mountains, including Scafell Pike and Great Gable.
The 17-mile event covers at least 6,500 feet of climbing and takes competitors over the summits of Scafell Pike, Great Gable, and Dale Head, before returning to the village of Rosthwaite.
