Great Neck

Community on Long Island's North Shore, in North Hempstead town, Nassau County, southeast New York; population (1990) 8,700. Set on a peninsula jutting out into Long Island Sound, it is primarily residential. In the 1920s, Great Neck was home to many film celebrities, and was the model for East Egg in F Scott Fitzgerald's novel The Great Gatsby. Fitzgerald lived here for a time.
