Greef, Arthur de (1862-1940)

Belgian pianist and composer. He began his career about the age of 20 and became piano professor at the Brussels Conservatory in 1887. He toured widely in Europe and frequently visited England.

He studied under Louis Brassin (1840-1884) at the Brussels Conservatory and with Liszt at Weimar, Germany.

Opera

De Marketenster (1879).

Vocal

Chants d'amour for voice and orchestra; songs.

Orchestral

symphony, Four Old Flemish Folksongs for orchestra, ballad for string orchestra, concerto and fantasy for piano and orchestra, Menuet varié for piano and strings.

Chamber

sonata for two pianos; piano pieces.
