Green Mountains

Mountain range in Vermont, northeast USA, representing a northern extension of the Appalachian Mountains. The highest peak in the range is Mount Mansfield (1,339 m/4,393 ft). The area's popularity for skiing has led to erosion problems. The Green Mountain National Forest was created in 1932 to protect the environment.
