greengage

Small tree Prunus institia italica, family Rosaceae, native to West Asia. Its sweet-flavoured fruit is a kind of plum, small, round, and green when ripe. It is grown as a dessert fruit and for jam-making.

It is less hardy than some plums, and requires shelter and a good deal of care in cultivation. It is named after Thomas Gage, who introduced it to England about 1725.
