Greene County

County in southwest Missouri; area 1,752 sq km/677 sq mi; population (1990) 208,000. It is located on the Ozark Plateau. Its administrative headquarters and only large city is Springfiwls, whose many industries strongly affect its economy. In the rest of the county livestock is raised and a variety of crops, including grain, fruits, and vegetables, are grown. There are also deposits of iron, lead, and limestone.

County in southeast New York; area 1,678 sq km/648 sq mi; population (1990) 44,739. It is situated along the eastern banks of the Hudson River. Its southwest section is in the Catskill Mountains, much of it in the Catskill State Park. Its administrative headquarters is Catskill, where there is some manufacturing. There are many ski resorts, such as Hunter and Windham, and summer vacation areas. The county also produces such agricultural goods as vegetables, fruit, and dairy products.

County in southwest Ohio; area 1,077 sq km/416 sq mi; population (1990) 136,763. The county is intersected by the Little Miami and Mad rivers. Its administrative headquarters is Xenia. Residential suburbs of Dayton occupy much of its west section. Otherwise, its economy depends primarily on agriculture, including grain, livestock, poultry, and truck farming. There is manufacturing at Fairborn, Xenia, and Yellow Springs. Gravel and sand are natural resources, and the area is noted for its mineral springs.
