Greenhouse, Bernhard (1916- )

US cellist. He studied at Juilliard and with Casals and Emanuel Feuermann, and made his debut in New York in 1946. He was a founder member of the Harpsichord Quintet (1947-54) and played with the Bach Aria Group 1948-76. He has premiered many US chamber works, including Carter's cello sonata in 1949. In 1955 he was a founder member of the Beaux Arts Trio and he made many tours worldwide until 1987. He taught at the Manhattan School of Music 1950-82, at the State University of New York 1960-85, and at the State University of New Jersey from 1987.
