Gregory, Augustus Charles (1819–1905)

English-born explorer and surveyor in Australia who in 1855–56 led an expedition of scientific exploration which crossed from Victoria River, on the northwest coast of Australia, to Rockhampton on the northeast coast, and located valuable pastures. In 1858 his expedition in search of Leichhardt found traces of the lost explorer but failed to clear up the mystery of his disappearance. KCMG 1903.
