Gregory, W(illiam) K(ing) (1876–1970)

US palaeontologist and ichthyologist. He was curator of ichthyology and comparative anatomy at the American Museum of Natural History, where he worked from 1911–44. Gregory specialized in anatomy and the development of teeth in fish and mammals. Among his hundreds of publications are The Orders of Mammals (1910) and The Origin and Evolution of Human Dentition (1920–22). He was born in New York City, and educated at Columbia University. He worked as an assistant to palaeontologist Henry Fairfield Osborn (1899–1913)
