Gresham

Town in Multnomah County, northwest Oregon; population (1990) 68,200. It is located 19 km/11 mi east of Portland. Founded in 1852, it is the centre of a fruit growing region, and the gateway to the recreational areas of Mount Hood and the Columbia River Gorge, to the east. Recently, the town has become more of a residential suburb of Portland, and is now linked to its larger neighbour by the Metropolitan Area Express (MAX) light-rail line. Gresham is home to Mount Hood Community College (1965).
