Greymouth

Seaport and administrative centre of West Coast region, South Island, New Zealand, at the mouth of the Grey River; population (2006) 9,500. It is the principal centre on the west coast of the island for tourist traffic, and an important farming area, particularly beef cattle raising. The town has brick works, foundry and engineering works, a brewery, and a dairy factory. A fishing fleet operates from the port.
