Griffin, Bernard William (1899–1956)

English cardinal. Born in Birmingham, he was educated at Oscott College and at the English and Beda Colleges in Rome. He was ordained as a priest in 1924 and was administrator of Father Hudson's Homes, Coleshill, 1937–43. He was bishop auxiliary of Birmingham 1938–43. In 1943 he was appointed archbishop of Westminster and was elevated to the Sacred College in 1946.
