Griffith-Joyner, Florence (1959–1998)

US track athlete who won four medals at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, including gold medals in the 100 and 200 metres and the sprint relay. Her time in the 200 metres was a world record 21.34 seconds. Two months earlier at the US trials she had reduced the 100-metre world record by more than a quarter of a second with a run of 10.49 seconds.
