Grigny, Nicolas de (1672–1703)

French organist and composer. He studied under his father – Louis de Grigny (c. 1646–1709), organist at Notre-Dame of Rheims – and in Paris. He was organist of the abbey of Saint-Denis, Paris, 1693–95, and then of Rheims Cathedral. Organ music written by him and published in 1699 was known and copied by Johann Sebastian Bach in his early years.
