Grimsby

Town in Niagara Regional Municipality, south Ontario, Canada; population (1991) 18,500. It is situated on the northshore of Lake Ontario, 19 km/12 mi east-southeast of Hamilton and 40 km/25 mi west of Niagara Falls. It is a residential and resort town. The town was first settled in the 1780s by Loyalists (those who remained loyal to Britain during the American Revolution) in what became a major fruit growing region.
