Griselda, La

    0.11 sec.

Griselda, La

Opera by Alessandro Scarlatti (libretto after A Zeno), first produced at the Teatro Capranica, Rome, Italy, in January 1721. It was the last of Scarlatti's 69 operas, beginning with Gli equivoci (1679). A modern edition was arranged by Lionel Salter. In the story, King Gualtiero tests his wife, Griselda. She must live as a peasant, is threatened with the loss of her son, and is pursued by Ottone. She remains true and is restored as queen.
