Grotewohl, Otto (1894-1964)

German politician. In 1949 he became prime minister of the German Democratic Republic.

From 1925 to 1933 he was a Social Democratic member of the Reichstag and was subsequently imprisoned in a concentration camp. After World War II he became a member of the Socialist Unity party, a fusion of socialists and communists, in the Soviet zone of Germany.
