Gruber, H(einz) K(arl) (1943– )

Austrian composer. He has played the double bass in various Viennese orchestras, and co-founded the avant-garde group MOB Art and Tone ART.

He studied at the Vienna Hochschule and with Gottfried von Einem.

melodrama Die Vertreibung aus dem Paradies for speakers and six instruments (1966); spectacle Gomorrah (1972); ‘pandemonium’ Frankenstein!! for baritone and orchestra (1977); stage work Gloria von Jaxtberg (1993).

Orchestral

concerto for orchestra (1964), Manhattan Broadcasts for chamber orchestra, Arien for violin and orchestra, Rough Music, concerto for percussion and orchestra (1983); two violin concertos (1978, revised 1992, and 1988); cello concerto (1989).

Voices and instruments

Mass for chorus, two trumpets, horn, double bass, and percussion (1960), Reportage aus Gomorrah for five singers and eight players (1976).
