Gruberová, Edita (1946– )

Czech soprano. She made her debut in Bratislava in 1968, as Rosina. She sang the Queen of the Night at the Vienna Staatsoper in 1970 and has returned as Lucia, Gilda, and Violetta. She sang at Salzburg from 1974, often with Karajan, and made her New York Metropolitan Opera House debut in 1979, as Lucia. In 1984 she sang Giulietta in a new production of Bellini's I Capuleti e i Montecchi/The Capulets and Montagues at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London. At Munich she has sung Massenet's Manon. In the 1992 season she was Lucia at Munich and Semiramide at Zurich. She is admired for her confident coloratura technique.
