Grumiaux, Arthur, Baron Grumiaux (1921–1986)

Belgian violinist. He was admired for his purity of tone and controlled intensity. He excelled in the 18th-century repertory, and is famous for his recordings of the unaccompanied Bach violin sonatas, and the Mozart and Beethoven violin/piano sonatas with the Romanian pianist Clara Haskil (1895–1960). He also played the 20th-century concertos of Béla Bartók, Alban Berg, and Igor Stravinsky. He was created a baron in 1973.
