Grumman, Leroy

Grumman, Leroy (Randle) (1895–1982)

US aeronautical engineer. As general manager of the Loening Aeronautical Corporation (1921–29) and president of Grumman Aircraft Corporation (1930–46), he developed a series of successful Navy aircraft. These included the ‘Wildcat’, ‘Bearcat’ and ‘Tiger Cat’. Grumman was born in Huntington, New York. He was enshrined in the Aviation Hall of Fame (1972).
