Gryphius, Sebastian

    0.09 sec.

Gryphius, Sebastian (1493–1556)

German printer. He printed about 300 books in languages including Hebrew, Greek, Latin, Italian, and French. Among his most noted works are the fine Latin Bible (1550) and Dolet's Commentaria linguae Latinae.

He was born at Reutlingen, Swabia, in modern-day Germany, and settled at Lyons, France, in 1528. His Greek and Hebrew typefaces are particularly fine examples of typography, and his French and Latin books are still highly regarded for their workmanship.
