Guami, Gioseffo (c. 1535–1611)

Italian organist and composer, and the brother of Francesco Guami. He was a pupil of Willaert at St Mark's in Venice. He was at Munich with his brother, and was organist of St Mark's in Venice from 1588 to 1591, and later organist at Lucca Cathedral. He wrote numerous madrigals, church music, and instrumental music. Bull wrote a fantasia for keyboard on a theme from his instrumental canzona La Guamina. Of his eight sons Domenico (c. 1580–1631) and Valerio (1587–1649) are known as composers. Vincenzo (d 1615) was for a short time from 1613 organist at the chapel of the Archduke Albert at Antwerp.
